3rd: Faircloth's Hot Spot Cools |
|
Day-1 leader Faircloth didn't have the same sizzling bite at his starting spot this morning that he exploited en route to a 31-pound stringer the previous day.
"They weren't in there like they were," he said. "They weren't pulling the (current) as hard and I think that had a lot to do with it. I had to run some new stuff and try some different stuff." Complete Story |

It's not like Faircloth had to labor all day to compile his monstrous bag – he had a limit in the box just a few minutes after he began fishing and had secured most of his weight by the time the local residents were just beginning their work day.
"Realistically, I was hoping I could catch 20 to 25 pounds," he said. "That's what I'd been getting in practice, but today I got lucky and got some 6-pounders."
He went through about 30 keepers and his two biggest both checked in at 6-13.
"I'm just fishing post-spawn stuff, intercepting fish as they migrate out toward their summer grounds. I've got a couple of patterns that are working for me and hopefully I can get another good bag tomorrow.
"I think the patterns will hold up, but I don't know if the spots will. I might have to run different water and stuff I haven't fished and bounce around some. Generally the places here will replenish to some degree, and these fish are coming to me, so I feel good about that." Complete Story

Todd Faircloth leads Day One at Lake Guntersville |
|
LAKE GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. — Fish-factory Lake Guntersville is like racing on a fast track, golfing on a short municipal course or bowling with those deflecting cushions. In other words, things can get a bit easier and infinitely more entertaining. On Thursday, Todd Faircloth of Jasper, Texas, smashed 31 pounds, 0 ounces, on Guntersville to lead the Marine Formula STA-BIL Southern Challenge, edging out a host of anglers who caught 28-plus pounds.
Spurred by a productive practice, Faircloth boated the vast majority of his weight by 8 a.m., just two hours into his competition day. The two-time BASS winner visited high spots on the main lake filled with either shell beds or grass. With a firm total in hand, Faircloth spent much of his day searching for new water that he could use throughout the rest of the four-day tournament. Complete Story |
